The Irish Wedding (Uilleann pipes)

Most Americans think of the traditional Scottish Wedding when considering hiring a piper for their wedding. Some key differences exist between the Scottish and Irish wedding traditions.  The primary difference is that different instruments are played and the fact that the kilt by the piper  The Uilleann pipes, also known as the Irish bagpipes, have a distinctly different sound--a mellow, melodic, and full sound that is very different from the high-pitched, loud, military-sounding Highland bagpipe. They are also considered one of the most beautiful instruments--and one of the most difficult to play.  The Uilleann bagpipe is one of the unmistakable sounds marking the music of Ireland.  Most people are familiar with its sound from soundracks of movies such as Titanic and Braveheart, and from the popular touring show, Riverdance.

I perform both solo and with other traditional Irish musicians upon request.  If you are interested in having a truly unique and authentically traditional Irish touch to your wedding, please contact me.

NOTE: I do not book events with other pipers. My primary goal is to provide a professional performance for you and your guests to remember in positive light for years to come. In all but the rarest of occasions, booking with unknown pipers and/or the expectation to play with other musicians without a rehearsal results in disaster. There are many reasons for this, including dynamics of the instrument (e.g., getting all the instruments in tune with each other), dissimilar tune settings, and varying degrees of musicianship among local pipers.
